Artist Bio:

Steven M. Cummings is a photographer and documentarian who has a studio in Northeast, Washington, D.C. He was born in Okinawa, Japan in 1965 and traveled through Europe with his military family as a child. Cummings depicts black life in Washington, D.C., and shoots almost exclusively in black and white, making this color photograph a distinct departure and a marked moment in time. This self-portrait is held in the collection of Big Bear Cafe, a longstanding cultural anchor in the District of Columbia. His photographs are also archived in the collection of the Anacostia Community Museum.
