Artwork Title: 'Inheritance of Ruin'
Year: 2025
Medium: Mixed media
Materials: Pencil and charcoal on paper
Dimensions: 30” x 25”
Artist Statement:
Joshua Maps Glover is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores Black imagination, cultural memory, and the systems that shape everyday life. Working across drawing, installation, performance, and digital media, Glover creates worlds that blur the line between documentation and speculation—where history, humor, and critique exist side by side.
At the center of his practice is a commitment to archiving and reimagining Black expression. Projects like The Museum of Black Thought function as living containers for ideas, stories, and overlooked forms of knowledge, asking what it means to preserve not just objects, but ways of thinking. His work often pulls from American iconography, transforming familiar symbols into characters and narratives that reflect Black identity, resistance, and possibility.
